"The tools are there. We just need to connect the dots."

If you’re interested in where weblogs are headed check out Christopher Lydon’s interview of Adam Curry. There’s a lot of really good stuff in there. Really. Good. Stuff.

Here’s a little taste of what’s going on. Because my news aggregator supports enclosures, the mp3 file containing the interview was waiting on my hard drive this morning. My aggregator downloaded it overnight. I just had to copy the file over to my mp3 player and go.

Think “Tivo for radio”, but without the centralized control and where anyone can be a broadcaster.

This is still more work than it needs to be. Adam, for example, set up some AppleScripts to automatically copy the files over to his iPod when they appear in his enclosures directory. Unlike Adam, I use a PC and a Neuros, so will have to come up with my own solution (unless somebody else does first).

  1. The Neuros appears as a “removable drive”, so in theory that could work. The problem with Neuros is that it constructs its navigation not from the local filesystem, but from a database that gets updated from desktop software.

  2. This is bad design IMO. If you’re in the market for mp3 players, pay attention to this one. The player should look like a system disk. You shouldn’t need to run any extra “sync manager” software if you don’t want to. Period.
