A personal memory of Spalding Gray

Barlow writes, “I want to make a little book of your comments following the last three posts and give it to them.”
Here a short personal anectdote that I sent to Barlow by private email several weeks ago. He wrote back, encouraging me to post it. So here it is.

I didn’t know Spalding Gray personally, but rather through his movies and one live performance I attended in Boston several years ago.
The performance wasn’t a monologue, but a sort of mish mash of collected material.
At one point he did a segment where he answered questions from the audience, that they’d written on index cards before the start of the show.
One of the questions was: “What is your favorite sex toy?”
Not skipping a beat, he said, “My imagination”, and moved on to the next question.

We’ll miss you, Spald.
