Yesterday’s Connection on weblogs wasn’t especially informative to this blogger. The guest, New Yorker writer George Packer, said that he went through a phase where he spent too much time reading blogs. Addictive yes, potentially time consuming, yes, but does he use a news aggregator, and if so, does he use it efficiently? I go through phases of more and less reading, depending on what else I’ve got on my plate. If I’m too busy to read much, the stories slip quietly out of my aggregator without my having to manage them, so I can go with the flow. Packer also said he’d like to see more blogs dedicated exclusively to journalism. I’d like to see more blogs dedicated to singing my praises, but that’s not how it works :-). See also David Weinberger, who points out a significant omission. This isn’t so much a dig at Packer, who has written excellently about Iraq in recent months, as the discussion itself, which left me feeling kind of flat.
