One of the properties of the new CSS-based design—and I’m not saying yet if it is good or bad—is that I can pretty easily tweak the appearance of this page by editing a file called “purple.css”. For fun I’ve lowercased the dates and given them a pale green backround. Better? Worse? Hmm, in my copy of Internet Explorer, the first date headline on the page has no background, but the others do. My HTML and CSS validate. Could this be one of those fabled IE CSS bugs?

  1. Could be — it displays correctly (green backgrounds behind all dates) in Safari (KHTML) and Firefox (Gecko).
