Ben Abels
A childhood friend of mine is missing since the tsunami struck on Monday. His name is Ben Abels. On Monday he was in Thailand, on Phi Phi island. His family is searching for him as of 10:55pm CST last night. The linked article contains detail about Ben and where he was last seen. If you’re in Thailand and have seen or have news of Ben, please, please try to contact his family. This page at CNN lists an email address for his brother in law: hgould1013@hotmail.com. Update 2005-01-05: Searching for Ben Abels

Since I’m on vacation, I took a little extra time to try something I’d never tried before: listen to the “special features” audio commentary on a DVD. Have you ever tried it? I was struck by informality and simplicity. It felt as though I were sitting in a room chatting with the director about the movie. Reminded me of podcasts a bit.

Reuters: “The original picture will be auctioned on eBay, with part of the proceeds donated to parents of U.S. soldiers wishing to supply their sons and daughters with body armor in Iraq…Organizers expect more than 400,000 drivers to see the billboard each day for the next month. “
